This film is always one of my Halloween season favorites. Made at a time when the comedy duo of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello’s film success was on the slide, the film was a risky undertaking being that it was attempting to meld frights with laughs. Abbott and Costello were at odds with the script but the production trudged on and proved to be both a return to comedic form for the duo and a fright fest of monstrous proportions due to the addition of Universal Pictures’ properties Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man.

A box office winner, there are plenty of good Abbott and Costello bits and some horrific rampaging by three of our iconic movie monsters. There is also a cameo made by the Invisible Man at the end which signaled the direction that Abbott and Costello’s film work would follow in the years ahead. They would go on to meet up with The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Mummy and Boris Karloff as The Killer!
