Director William Friedkin cemented his legacy with two filmic masterpieces, The French Connection and The Exorcist. The French Connection excites with the kinetic pacing of this violent crime drama. It doesn’t hurt that this movie also features an iconic car chase scene that was repeatedly imitated. Also, features an Academy Award winning performance by Gene Hackman as hardboiled detective Popeye Doyle.
The Exorcist stills ranks, in my book, as one of the scariest movies ever made. The hackles will rise on the back of your neck as you witness a young girl being taken over by an evil presence and the ensuing chaos that commences in the process. Not a movie to be watched alone at night. It will give you the creeps.
Friedkin was a trailblazing filmmaker. His influence has been felt over the years. Watch these two cinematic gems and celebrate this great moviemaker.
Wes Craven, creator of Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream directed this ’80’s science fiction horror film for television. The money must have been right. The movie is a clear cut example of good folk versus evil folk and it has a somewhat annoying 1980’s sheen to it. Robert Urich relocates his family to his new work site and residence. It turns out that the influencers in the community all belong to a fashionable country club. Low and behold, the country club harbors a malignant force that guarantees success or failure in the suburban, gated community that the family moves to. Play Satan’s game or pay, essentially.
The science fiction element to this melodramatic farce includes a space suit Urich is working on that can detect non human life forms and withstand extreme temperatures. See where this is leading to? It is also equipped with a powerful laser weapon. Unfortunately, it is not used enough in the bizarro conclusion to this film. It has to be seen to be believed. Brings back memories of “House of Evil” (1978).
Good time waster, I guess. Craven cashed out bigtime!

The 1970’s were rife with speculation about what mysterious force could be behind all the missing and vanished boats, ships and planes which entered the region known as The Bermuda Triangle and then were never seen again. There are many books and television shows which have delved into this haunted spot. Are there natural forces to blame for the swallowing up of all these vessels or is it something supernatural? This scary TV picture thought that The Devil was at work in the area. Doug McClure and Kim Novak get stuck in the middle of all this mess and try to find a way to elude the evil. Good luck, mates!
