With the sad passing of Monkees member Davy Jones, I wanted memories of better times and found this freak out from The Monkees LP, “Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.” Early use of the Moog Synthesizer and Monkee hijinks amid all the pretty flashing lights highlight this promo piece.
“…and it will not stop coming after you until you are dead!” Well, that was a line from an ’80’s science fiction film but this REAL! This weird, robot contraption kind of gives me the creeps.
This dude has got to be flipped! A ramp launch across open ground into a 12 foot wide, 5 foot deep swimming pool. Crazy sick.
Some call it a contract ending or breaking recording project turned in to his record label. Lester Bangs referred to it as garage electronic rock. Whatever Lou Reed’s intention, Metal Machine Music is pretty much a consistent recording: It all pretty much sounds the same after 5 minutes but there is over an hour of material on the record/CD to “indulge” in. What we hear are moments of interest, maybe even melody seeping briefly out of the multitracked noise sludge before being sucked back in by the feedback monster. I remember listening to this sort of thing being hungover. What’s a few more brain cells going bye-bye by that point? Best to avoid prolonged headphone usage on this one.
WTF? Watch the entire movie and ask yourself: What kind of twisted mind came up with this tale? An entertaining if ridiculous movie featuring shipwreck survivors lost at sea, giant sea monsters feasting on human prey and a strange culture lost in time.
Another dittie – a love song. From The Damned. Singer Dave Vanian once upon a time favored a vampiric look. And guitarist Sensible wore feathers. Nice bit where they cavort around onstage with Sensible clinging to the broken neck guitar.
As we approach Halloween, we must plan on getting together with friends and having parties. This tune will get the walls rattling and it has a sort of Halloween related title. Nice Motorhead livecrypt song.
Another trend setter. Carpenter’s masterpiece centering on the immortal, knife-wielding psychopath, Michael Myers. Much creepiness and terror as Myers stalks Jamie Lee Curtis and her friends. Lots of shadows, lurking, mayhem, frights. A true classic.
Probably my all time favorite movie. This trailer is interesting in that it has the crude egg model and the tracking shot of the alien planet surface which are unique to the trailer and do not appear in the theatrical release. Hugely influential film.

One of my all time favorite pics! An alien hunter on steroids makes quick work of a military unit conducting operations in the jungles of South America. Exhilirating action and quite a few scares await the viewer. Arnold at his peak.
Cool little assemblage of familiar characters facing off in the dark streets of Gotham. Creepy Joker, as well! NICE!!!
I am a sucker for some of these vids. This clip is intriguing because the object in question is “very strange” and changing in appearance. The video was taken in the daytime which allows more detail to be examined. As in a great many of these UFO videos, there is a lot of blurry, shaky handheld camera work.
A guilty pleasure! Caveman is dug up in China by a scientific expedition and transported by train out of the frozen wastes. Unbeknownst to the expedition, an alien life presence has been trapped inside the prehistoric life form and it wants to make up for millions of years of lost time! Namely, turning anyone who gazes into its hypnotic red eyes into a zombified slave who does the alien’s bidding. A battle between us and them erupts on the train ride with the very future of mankind’s supremacy on this planet at stake! Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are teamed up once again in this wacky little fantasy flick.
